This is an email announcement regarding the documentary film, Lonely Man of Faith: The Life and Legacy of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik

I'd like to welcome all of the 60 new subscribers to this email list.

First of all, I wanted to announce a new screening happening very soon:
This Thursday, July 22nd (11th of Av) at 7:30 PM at Bnai Jacob Shaarei Zion Congregation in BaltimoreRabbi Aaron Rakeffet-Rothkoff, senior advisor on the film, will be present to discuss the film.  Admission costs $18 for adults and $12 for seniors and students.

As you probably know, this Monday night is Tishah B'Av (the Ninth of Av), the saddest day on the Jewish calendar, on which we mourn the destruction of the two temples in Jerusalem, and the many calamities that occurred in its wake.

Rabbi Soloveitchik used to hold an annual marathon day-long session in Boston on Tishah B'Av, on which he would expound upon the themes and liturgy of the day.  There are now two books available that provide a digest of his comments over the course of many years.

It has been a while since I last sent out an email to the list.  It has been a busy time for me and my wife.  I'm happy to report that two months ago, we had a baby boy, our first!  Aminadav Shalom was born on Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day).  He has brought us much joy, but we've also become quite acquainted with the exhaustion that is so familiar to all parents.

Since I last wrote, a few successful screenings have taken place:
I was in attendance at all three screenings.

As you hopefully know by now, the home video version of Lonely Man of Faith is available for purchase on the Lonely Man of Faith website, and has been shipping for a few months now.  The DVD continues to sell, although I have yet to work out distribution to Jewish bookstores in North America and beyond.

Order the DVD here.

Regular shipping free of charge.

Again, note that as of now, the DVD is only available in NTSC format.  If you live in Israel or Europe, you are probably best off waiting until a PAL version is available locally, to save on shipping charges and ensure that it will play on your machine.  (However, if your player and TV can display NTSC and you either can have it brought to you or don't mind the shipping charges, then you are welcome to order the disc.  There are no zone restrictions on it).

May you have a meaningful fast and may our people know of no more sorrow,
Ethan Isenberg
